Background: British Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgeons defines post-operative hypocalcaemia as adjusted calcium of < 2.0 mmol/l; ‘late hypocalcaemia’ as the ongoing requirement for calcium/Vitamin D supplements at 6 months; permanent post-surgical hypoparathyroidism (PSHP) at 12 months.
